Labcorp launches AI-powered app to explain your lab results

Labcorp has released MyLabcorp, a mobile app that uses artificial intelligence to explain lab results to patients in plain English. The app combines test results with educational content and AI-powered insights to help people understand what their blood work means.
The app addresses a growing trend of patients turning to AI tools for health information. A Labcorp survey found that 55% of consumers view AI as important for understanding healthcare information, with 41% already using it to interpret lab results.
How does it work?
MyLabcorp connects several features in one mobile app:
- Lab results displayed over time to show health trends
- AI chat assistant powered by OpenAI models that explains results in conversational language
- Educational content reviewed by clinicians covering areas like heart health, mental health, and kidney function
- Appointment scheduling and test ordering capabilities
- HIPAA-compliant security to protect health data
Users can ask the AI assistant questions about their specific results and get personalized explanations based on their Labcorp test history. The AI is designed to provide context rather than isolated answers about individual test values.
Why does it matter?
Lab results are often confusing for patients, filled with medical terminology and reference ranges that don't explain what the numbers actually mean for their health. Many people already turn to general AI tools or Google searches to interpret their results, but these lack clinical context.
"Consumers are increasingly turning to AI to help them make sense of their health, but trust and clinical context matter," said Amy Summy, Labcorp's chief marketing officer. The app aims to bridge this gap by combining Labcorp's laboratory expertise with AI explanations.
The app also helps patients prepare for doctor visits by giving them a better understanding of their results beforehand. This could lead to more productive conversations with healthcare providers and better health outcomes.
The context
This launch reflects the broader trend of healthcare companies integrating AI into consumer-facing products. As patients take more active roles in managing their health, they're demanding tools that make medical information more accessible.
Labcorp processed more than 750 million tests globally in the past year, making it one of the largest laboratory service providers worldwide. The company sees AI as a way to add value to these routine tests by helping patients better understand and act on their results.
The app is available now in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, with additional features planned for future releases. Labcorp emphasizes that the app is designed to support understanding and wellness, not provide medical diagnoses or treatment recommendations.
