Al Ghurair enters healthcare with Trellis Health launch in Dubai

One of the UAE's oldest family business empires has just moved into healthcare. Al Ghurair, whose six-decade footprint spans food, real estate, mobility and infrastructure, launched Trellis Health this week, a new multi-speciality healthcare group built around what it calls 'Connected Caring.' The premise is straightforward: coordinate care across every stage of a patient's journey, rather than treating each visit as a standalone event.

The group launches with an existing asset, Trellis Hospital in Umm Suqeim, a JCI-accredited, 50-bed facility offering more than 35 specialties including cardiology, obstetrics, paediatrics and orthopaedics. Two clinics in Expo City and Jumeirah Village Circle are set to open by end of 2026, with a further hospital and two more clinics planned as the network grows.

How does it work?

Trellis Health organises its care model around four commitments to patients:

  • One coordinated team across the care journey
  • Clinicians who prioritise patient outcomes over throughput
  • A simplified patient experience with technology built in
  • Long-term follow-through beyond the initial episode of care

The technology layer is not incidental. Smart tools are positioned as a way to make access easier, not just to digitise existing processes.

Why does it matter?

Dubai's population is projected to reach 5.8 million by 2040 under the Dubai Urban Master Plan, with 25 percent more land allocated to health and education. That is a significant supply gap, and private capital is going to fill most of it. Al Ghurair entering the sector, with the balance sheet and community presence to build at scale, signals that major family conglomerates see healthcare as the next long-term infrastructure play in the UAE.

The context

This launch fits a broader pattern across the GCC, where governments are actively encouraging private sector participation in healthcare to reduce pressure on public systems and meet rising demand from growing, aging populations. In Saudi Arabia, Vision 2030 has made this explicit. The UAE has its own parallel push, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi both attracting significant investment in private hospital networks. Trellis Health is not the first to move, but Al Ghurair's name and capital give it a credible foundation to build something that lasts. For more information, visit trellishospital.com.
