DHA integrates AI in NABIDH to strengthen patient data security & privacy

In a bold move that puts patient trust front and center, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has woven artificial intelligence (AI) into its flagship health information system, NABIDH — teaming up with Imprivata to roll out the new Patient Privacy Intelligence initiative.
As His Excellency Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of DHA, put it, the goal is clear: "to build a patient experience founded on trust in the management of health data."
With over 9.5 million patient records and more than 1,500 healthcare facilities now synced into one seamless system, Dubai's digital health revolution isn't just speeding along — it's hitting full throttle.
How will it work?
At the heart of this new push is Patient Privacy Intelligence (PPI), a slick layer of AI-driven protection baked right into NABIDH. Here's how it rolls:
- Real-time surveillance: PPI watches over patient records like a hawk, sniffing out unauthorized access attempts before they cause trouble.
- AI-powered analytics: The system uses behavioral smarts to spot fishy activity and stop potential breaches in their tracks.
- Unified records: Every patient in Dubai gets a single, comprehensive electronic file, viewable across all connected healthcare providers.
Ms. Mona Bajman, CEO of Shared Support Services at DHA, didn't mince words: "By safeguarding patient data through advanced AI and behavioral analytics, we are setting a new benchmark in healthcare security and compliance."
Simply put, it's like having a super-smart security guard working 24/7 to keep your health info locked down tight.
Why does it matter?
In a world where digital breaches are scarier than a sandstorm on Sheikh Zayed Road, patient data protection isn't just nice to have — it's non-negotiable. DHA's move to beef up security isn't about shiny tech for tech's sake; it's about building rock-solid trust between doctors, hospitals, and the people they serve.
Dr. Mohammed Al Redha, who heads DHA's Health Informatics and Smart Health Department, nailed it when he said: "Ensuring patient data privacy is a cornerstone of DHA's digital health transformation." Without trust, there's no progress. And without airtight data security, there's no trust.
By using AI to patrol sensitive data, DHA is also making healthcare safer and smarter. Faster diagnosis, fewer errors, and smoother handoffs between providers are all part of the package — a win-win if there ever was one.
The context
Dubai isn't just playing catch-up. It's racing ahead, setting the pace for what digital healthcare should look like in the 21st century.
Here's what's already ticking:
- Over 9.53 million patient medical records stitched into NABIDH
- More than 1,500 healthcare facilities connected
- 82% of the city's medical workforce now actively using the system
As Khaled Esseibi, Regional Director at Imprivata Middle East, put it, DHA's push is "commendable," showing the world that digital healthcare doesn't have to mean sacrificing privacy. Instead, it's about using smart tools — and smarter thinking — to build a system that's efficient, transparent, and above all, human.
The NABIDH Elevate event, where DHA unveiled these upgrades, wasn't just a victory lap. It was a rallying cry: a future where Dubai leads the charge in weaving security and innovation hand in hand — no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
