Abu Dhabi DoH launches Sahatna integrated mobile app

The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH) has taken a significant step in revolutionizing healthcare management with the launch of "Sahatna," an integrated mobile app designed to empower residents to take charge of their health.
Announced at the GITEX 2024 technology show in Dubai, this app is a landmark in the emirate's push towards a more patient-centric healthcare system, promising to improve long-term health outcomes and create a healthier future for all.
How does it work?
Sahatna offers an array of features that make healthcare management more accessible and personalized. Users can book appointments, engage in teleconsultations, and access their medical records from Malaffi — Abu Dhabi's central health information exchange. The app's robust scheduling system allows patients to manage healthcare interactions, whether in-person or virtually, easily.
Moreover, Sahatna integrates with wearable devices to track wellness metrics like sleep and step counts, delivering personalized wellness goals.
It also includes the AI symptom checker, which assesses the severity of symptoms and advises on the appropriate care, such as whether a visit to an urgent care facility is needed.
As Ibrahim Al Jallaf, Executive Director of Digital Health at DoH, mentioned, "More than 60 percent of Abu Dhabi's healthcare facilities are already connected to the app, providing instant access to services in just one touch."
Why does it matter?
The launch of Sahatna is a critical milestone in Abu Dhabi's healthcare transformation. The app provides convenience and aligns with the emirate's vision of using technology to enhance healthcare quality and accessibility.
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, highlighted the broader impact by stating, "We are committed to creating a thriving society by empowering our residents to lead happier, healthier, and longer lives."
This is particularly relevant for participants of the Emirati Genome Program, who — through Sahatna — gain access to personalized genomic reports. These reports enable users to make more informed lifestyle and healthcare decisions based on their unique genetic profiles, empowering individuals with insights into their health and wellness.
The context
The unveiling of Sahatna is part of Abu Dhabi's broader strategy to become a global leader in healthcare. With a robust digital infrastructure already in place, the Department of Health continues to harness data and technology to drive forward innovations in patient care. The app was developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi Health Data Service (ADHDS), which has been instrumental in creating a connected, intelligent healthcare ecosystem.
As Kareem Shahin, CEO of ADHDS, noted, "Our partnership represents a transformative leap towards a healthier and more connected future."
This forward-thinking approach positions Abu Dhabi as a healthcare innovator, ensuring that residents and even visitors can benefit from enhanced, accessible, and personalized healthcare services.
