eHealth teams up with Egypt’s government on a comprehensive health insurance system

Egypt is doubling down on its mission to modernize healthcare. In a strategic move, e-finance for Digital and Financial Investments and its health-focused arm, eHealth, has inked a deal with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance (GAHI).

The goal? To weave Egypt's health insurance system into the fabric of its broader social protection network. This isn't just another bureaucratic handshake — it's a potential game-changing leap toward a more inclusive, digitized, and efficient healthcare system.

How does it work?

At the heart of this initiative lies a two-pronged approach. First, the agreement establishes a framework to integrate health insurance services with Egypt's wider social protection systems. This means more seamless access to medical services for citizens, with a stronger safety net in place.

Second, eHealth is stepping in to provide the tech muscle. Under a separate contract, the company will handle operations for the comprehensive health insurance system, leveraging its digital services to streamline processes and extend coverage across the country.

As Ibrahim Sarhan, Chairman and Managing Director of e-finance, put it, "This agreement reinforces the group's role in providing a variety of services to citizens spanning all sectors, especially medical services developed by eHealth in collaboration with GAHI."

"eHealth cooperates with GAHI in providing specialized digital solutions with the purpose of improving the quality of services provided and achieving financial sustainability by improving resource management and empowering the authority," explained eHealth CEO Akram Reda.

The private sector's involvement in public health is also growing. Reda emphasized this shift, stating, "The company intends to invest in digital and operational solutions to consolidate the role of the private sector as a key partner in providing healthcare services."
