Hyperfine brings portable brain MRI to Kuwait and the UAE through Roots Pharmaceutical deal

Most MRI machines weigh several tonnes and require purpose-built rooms. Hyperfine's Swoop system does not. That distinction is now heading to Kuwait and the UAE.

Hyperfine, the US-listed health technology company behind the Swoop portable brain MRI system, has named Kuwait-based Roots Pharmaceutical as its exclusive distributor for Kuwait and the UAE. The agreement covers market development, regulatory support, product education, and, once local clearances are secured, full commercial operations across both countries.

Why does it matter?

Stroke and neurodegenerative diseases are among the most time-sensitive conditions in medicine. Getting a brain scan quickly, and close to the patient, can change outcomes. The Swoop system is FDA-cleared, AI-powered, and portable enough to be used at the bedside, in emergency departments, or in facilities that could never house a conventional MRI unit. For the UAE and Kuwait, both of which are actively expanding their diagnostic infrastructure, that flexibility has real clinical value.

Roots Pharmaceutical brings established relationships across the GCC and a track record of launching specialist medical technologies in the region. So this is not a paper distribution deal. It is a commercial push backed by local knowledge.

The context

The UAE's health sector is a central pillar of national development strategy. Investment in advanced diagnostics, AI-assisted care, and hospital infrastructure has accelerated sharply in recent years. Kuwait is on a similar path. Both markets are moving toward more patient-centric models of care, which means bringing diagnostics closer to where patients actually are, rather than moving patients to where machines happen to be.

Hyperfine has built its international strategy around exactly this idea. The Swoop system has already been deployed in:

• Intensive care units and emergency departments
• Stroke and neurology wards
• Remote and underserved facilities with limited infrastructure
• Research and academic medical centres

The GCC expansion adds two high-investment markets to that network. Pending local regulatory clearance, clinical adoption in Kuwait and the UAE could follow within the coming months.
