M42, Reem Hospital to launch a mental health platform

In the heart of Abu Dhabi, where tradition meets tomorrow, a new digital lifeline is being born. It's called Nafas — the Arabic word for "breath" — and that's no accident. Meant to be as natural and essential as breathing itself, Nafas is a groundbreaking mental health platform set to transform how people in the Emirate get support.
The platform is the brainchild of a powerful alliance between M42's Digital Health Solution (DHS), via Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS), and Reem Hospital. Together, they're aiming to rewrite the mental health playbook for Abu Dhabi, one tap, click, and conversation at a time.
"Nafas will provide a comprehensive mental health platform that empowers residents and citizens of Abu Dhabi to take control of their mental well-being in a secure and convenient environment," said Kareem Shahin, CEO of M42's DHS platform.
How does it work?
At its core, Nafas is all about ease, privacy, and support without the red tape. It brings together everything you might need to care for your mental health — under one digital roof.
Here's what users can expect:
- 1-on-1 virtual therapy sessions that are easy to book, discreet, and secure
- 24/7 chat support that's always there, even at 3 a.m. when your thoughts won't quit
- A rich content library full of advice, videos, and articles in multiple languages
- Gentle reminders and seamless booking tools that make taking care of yourself feel simple
The digital backbone is powered by ADHDS' tech expertise, while the clinical care is led by Reem Hospital's experienced hands. That mix? It's designed to feel both high-tech and human.
Why does it matter?
Mental health isn't a luxury. It's a basic need — one that's been swept under the rug for far too long in many parts of the world. Nafas aims to change that, starting right here in Abu Dhabi.
By removing the usual roadblocks — like stigma, scheduling hassles, and limited access — Nafas gives people a real shot at getting help when they need it, not weeks later.
"Mental health is a key component of overall health," said Reem Hospital Chairman Zaid Al Siksek. "Through Nafas, we are excited to offer accessible, high-quality mental health services that will benefit all members of our community."
This isn't just about treating illness. It's about normalizing care, about making support feel as natural as opening an app and taking a deep breath.
The context
Let's be honest: mental health has long been the quiet crisis. In fast-growing, high-performing regions like the UAE, the pressures of modern life often collide with traditional notions of privacy and strength. That mix can make it hard for people to reach out.
Enter Nafas — not just a platform, but a shift in mindset.
The initiative is part of a broader push across the Emirates to weave digital innovation into daily life, especially in healthcare. What makes Nafas different is its scope and ambition. Built locally, but with an eye on the globe, the platform is already being positioned for international growth.
"Using the UAE as a launchpad, our ambition is to expand this platform internationally," Shahin added, "supporting people all around the world to combat mental health conditions."
In short, Nafas isn't just a service — it's a breath of fresh air in a space that's long needed it.
