Bayer, Al-Dawaa Medical Services team-up to enhance cardiac care in Saudi Arabia

Heart disease isn't just a health scare — it's the number one killer in Saudi Arabia. With over 30% of adults at risk of a cardiovascular event, something's got to give. That's where Bayer and Al-Dawaa Medical Services step in. They've teamed up to launch the "Protect Your Heart" campaign, a national initiative aimed at tackling cardiovascular disease (CVD) head-on.

Backed by the Ministry of Health and supported by Athar Volunteering Society, this collaboration is more than just a handshake — it's a commitment to saving lives and reshaping the future of heart health in the Kingdom.

How does it work?

It all starts with awareness and cutting-edge technology. The initiative equips pharmacists with the latest tools and digital applications to detect heart disease early and cost-effectively. But that's just the beginning. Twenty Al-Dawaa pharmacy branches will house dedicated heart health checkpoints, featuring the "HUMA" digital self-assessment tool. Customers can walk in, get assessed for CVD risk, and receive guidance from trained professionals. Meanwhile, a widespread media campaign is spreading the word about prevention, early detection, and lifestyle changes.

"By leveraging cutting-edge tools and educational programs, we aim to empower healthcare professionals and the public alike," said Mohamed Galal, VP and Head of Middle East at Bayer Consumer Health. "Together, we are committed to advancing heart health awareness and improving early detection."

Why does it matter?

Cardiovascular disease isn't just a health issue — it's a public health crisis with deep economic repercussions. By 2035, an estimated 480,000 more people in Saudi Arabia will be diagnosed with CVD, with costs tripling. Saudi Vision 2030 aims to increase life expectancy from 75 to 80 years, and tackling heart disease is a critical step toward achieving that goal.

"Cardiovascular diseases pose a major challenge to our healthcare system," said Maged El Shazly, Managing Director of Bayer Saudi Arabia. "This initiative aligns perfectly with our Vision 2030 objectives of fostering a vibrant society through improved health outcomes."

By educating pharmacists, making risk assessment tools widely accessible, and raising public awareness, this initiative is more than just a campaign — it's a movement towards a healthier nation.

The context

Saudi Arabia is at a crossroads. Lifestyle changes, including high-fat diets, smoking, and sedentary habits, are driving up CVD cases at an alarming rate. The government recognizes the urgency, which is why initiatives like "Protect Your Heart" are crucial. This partnership between Bayer and Al-Dawaa Medical Services is not just about short-term fixes — it's about long-term transformation.

"By working together, we can empower individuals to take control of their heart health through early detection and proactive management," said Fahad Alfarraj, Deputy CEO of Al-Dawaa Medical Services. "Ultimately, we're contributing to a healthier future for all."
