WHOOP launches specialized blood testing and cycle prediction for women

WHOOP is betting big on women's health. The fitness tracking company just announced a specialized blood testing panel for women, plus new AI features that predict menstrual cycle symptoms before they happen.
The move comes as women make up a growing share of WHOOP's user base - up 150% year-over-year. These users also interact with WHOOP's AI features 30% more than men, showing strong demand for personalized health insights that account for hormonal changes.
"We're not just helping women track their cycles," said Alex Vannoni, Head of Healthcare Product at WHOOP. "We're helping them understand how their physiology evolves over time - and giving them tools to act on it."
How does it work?
WHOOP's new Women's Health Specialized Blood Biomarker Panel tests 11 markers that standard health tests often miss or misinterpret in women. The panel launches next month and includes:
- Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) for ovarian reserve
- Progesterone and Prolactin for cycle regulation
- Thyroid markers including Free T4, Free T3, and TPO antibodies
- Nutrients like Vitamin B12, Folate, Magnesium, and Phosphate
- Leptin for metabolic health
The real innovation is how WHOOP connects these blood results to continuous data from its wearable device. Users can see how their biomarker levels relate to their sleep quality, recovery patterns, and exercise tolerance over time.
The company also updated its cycle tracking with AI-powered symptom prediction. Instead of just logging symptoms after they occur, the system learns each user's patterns and warns them what to expect. The predictions get more accurate over time as the AI learns from more data.
WHOOP published a white paper explaining how its cycle modeling works, including how it handles irregular cycles, perimenopause, and hormonal birth control.
Why does it matter?
Women's health has historically been under-researched and under-funded. Most medical research used male subjects, leaving gaps in understanding how women's bodies work differently.
This shows up in everyday healthcare. Standard blood test ranges often don't account for where women are in their menstrual cycles, even though hormone levels change dramatically throughout the month. A testosterone level that's normal during one phase might signal a problem during another.
WHOOP's approach addresses this by automatically adjusting blood test interpretations based on cycle phase. When users get their results, the system applies the right reference ranges for their current hormonal state.
"Women don't experience their physiology in silos," said Emily Capodillupo, WHOOP's Senior Vice President of Research. "Hormones influence sleep, sleep affects recovery, and recovery shapes training response. By modeling these interactions over time, we can deliver guidance that reflects the full system."
The context
WHOOP isn't the first company to focus on women's health tracking, but most competitors focus on fertility and pregnancy. Companies like Oura and Fitbit offer basic cycle tracking, while specialized apps like Clue (which WHOOP recently partnered with) focus mainly on period prediction.
WHOOP's approach is broader - connecting reproductive health to overall fitness and wellness. The company already offers pregnancy tracking and now covers the full spectrum from menstruation through perimenopause.
The blood testing component sets WHOOP apart from other fitness trackers. While devices can measure heart rate and sleep patterns, they can't detect hormone levels or nutrient deficiencies. Adding lab testing fills in gaps that wearables alone can't address.
The Women's Health Specialized Panel will be available in the US starting in April. Users can order tests through the WHOOP app, with pricing to be announced. The company plans to expand internationally and add more specialized panels later this year.
