UK’s ABHI Accelerator comes to the Middle East

The Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) is expanding its support for UK HealthTech companies with the launch of the ABHI Middle East Accelerator.
Running from April 2025 to March 2026, this program is specifically designed to help companies scale in the Middle East — offering access to a rapidly transforming healthcare landscape. With a focus on Saudi Arabia and the UAE, this initiative is set to empower participants with the tools and connections they need to thrive in one of the world's most dynamic regions for healthcare innovation.
Suzie Ali-Hassan, ABHI's International Business Director, encapsulates the opportunity: "The Middle East is investing at an extraordinary pace to transform healthcare delivery and innovation, making it a key destination for UK HealthTech companies ready to expand their reach."
How does it work?
The ABHI Middle East Accelerator combines expert guidance, tailored preparation, and on-the-ground opportunities to equip participants for success. The program includes:
- Comprehensive Preparation: A structured framework helps companies adapt their solutions to meet regional regulatory, cultural, and market-specific needs.
- Expert Networks: Exclusive access to industry leaders in both the UK and the Middle East, fostering invaluable mentorship and strategic advice.
- Trade Missions: Three major trade missions to Riyadh, Jizan, and Dubai provide direct engagement with decision-makers and the chance to showcase innovations.
Additional UK-based activities complement these efforts, ensuring participants are fully prepared to navigate the complexities of the Middle East healthcare market. The first mission, scheduled for April 2025, kicks off an ambitious calendar of events aligned with major industry exhibitions such as the Global Health Exhibition and Arab Health.
Why does it matter?
The Middle East is emerging as a hotspot for healthcare transformation, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE leading investments in digital health and IT. Saudi Arabia alone accounts for 60% of the Gulf Cooperation Council's healthcare expenditure, with a healthcare market valued at $57.1 billion in 2023. Similarly, the UAE's per capita healthcare spending averages $1,200 — among the highest globally — showcasing its commitment to cutting-edge medical technologies.
For UK HealthTech companies, these developments present an unparalleled opportunity to align their innovations with a market eager for advanced solutions. The program's proven model, inspired by the success of ABHI's US Accelerator (which has generated over $150 million in business), ensures that participants can build meaningful connections and achieve tangible results.
"This program offers unrivaled access to the market, supporting businesses to navigate its complexities and thrive in a region where the demand for cutting-edge solutions has never been greater," says Ali-Hassan.
The context
Healthcare modernization is at the forefront of national agendas across the Middle East, driven by strategic investments aimed at transforming care delivery and embracing digital technologies. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative highlights a $1.5 billion investment in digital health while the UAE continues to expand its healthcare infrastructure to cater to a growing population and its high standards for medical care.
By participating in the ABHI Middle East Accelerator, UK companies can position themselves as leaders in this dynamic environment. From early-stage innovators to established SMEs, the program is open to a range of businesses ready to make their mark in this burgeoning market.
Applications are now open, with a deadline of 6th February 2025. As spaces are limited, interested companies are encouraged to act quickly to secure their spot in this transformative program.
