UAE’s MoHAP receives a delegation participating in the Global Healthcare Leadership Program

It's not every day that the world stops to take notes, but that's exactly what happened when a global healthcare delegation touched down in the UAE. As part of the Global Healthcare Leadership Program, hosted by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the Government Experience Exchange Office, healthcare leaders from around the world gathered to see how the Emirates is rewriting the rules of modern healthcare.
Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Under-Secretary of MoHAP, along with top brass from the ministry, welcomed the delegation with open arms-and an open book. What followed was a whirlwind tour of digital innovation, bold public health strategies, and a hands-on look at how the UAE is turning vision into action.
"This is a testament to the success of the UAE's health system," said Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, "backed by the directives of our wise leadership and national strategies that have positioned the health sector as a central pillar of sustainable development."
How does it work?
So what's the UAE doing that's got the rest of the world taking notes? Plenty. The delegation got a first-hand look at:
- Digital transformation of the health system, where data, AI, and connectivity are stitched into the fabric of patient care
- Preventive care initiatives, focusing not just on treating illness but stopping it in its tracks
- Crisis response systems, including a tour of the Ministry's Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Centre — described as the backbone of the nation's health readiness
- Organ and tissue regulation, through the groundbreaking Hayat programme, which combines ethical leadership with medical excellence
Community wellness hubs, like the Customer Happiness Centre, which reimagines patient experience with a dose of innovation and empathy
The Ministry also showcased its tight coordination between federal and local authorities, a legislative framework that ensures quality across the board, and strategic planning that keeps the health system nimble and future-ready.
Why does it matter?
In a world rattled by pandemics and persistent health inequalities, the UAE's model stands out-not just for its high-tech sparkle but for the way it weaves policy, people, and purpose into one seamless system.
As Dr. Al Olama put it: "We will spare no effort to contribute to global health transformation by sharing our expertise in institutional governance and innovation, establishing the UAE as a trusted platform for developing forward-looking health policies."
Members of the visiting delegation echoed this sentiment. They were especially impressed by:
- The adaptive laws keeping pace with rapid health tech changes
- A digital backbone that supports both daily care and emergency response
- A culture of collaboration that bridges borders and disciplines
In short, the UAE isn't just building a better system for its own people-it's offering blueprints for others to follow.
The context
The visit didn't happen in a vacuum. It's part of the UAE's broader strategy to become a global convener of health expertise and a catalyst for international dialogue. With the world's eyes set on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, countries are scrambling to build health systems that are:
- Flexible
- Equitable
- Resilient
The UAE's proactive stance-linking its policies directly to SDG targets and inviting others to learn from its journey-is both timely and strategic.
"This visit," said Minister Al Owais, "reflects the international confidence in the UAE's evolving health strategies as well as the global interest in building strategic partnerships with the UAE, especially in digital health and artificial intelligence."
If there's a playbook for modern health leadership, the UAE is writing it in bold.
