UAE neurotechnology founder wins global innovation award for wearable brain monitoring work

At 24, Affaan Shaikh has filed a patent for a Brain Digital Twin, published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, and built a wearable EEG system being tested across clinical and research settings. Now he has a Global Recognition Award to add to that list.

Shaikh, Founder and CEO of Dubai and Mumbai-based Neuratia Labs, has received a 2026 Global Recognition Award in the Innovation category. The award recognised his work across wearable neurotechnology, artificial intelligence, medical engineering, and neuroscience education. The judging used the Rasch model, a statistical measurement method, and assessed him across innovation, leadership, and academic contribution.

Why does it matter?

Portable EEG technology has a well-known problem: getting clean, reliable brain signal data outside a controlled lab is hard. Neuratia Labs is building ONYX to address exactly that, combining wearable EEG sensing with machine learning, mobile tools, and cloud-based data management. The platform targets researchers and clinicians working in cognitive health, mental wellness, fatigue monitoring, elder care, aviation, and brain-computer interface development.

Shaikh's filed patent for a Brain Digital Twin goes further, proposing a computational framework that models and tracks changes in an individual's neural state over time. It's an ambitious concept, and Shaikh is clear-eyed about what it requires. "The aim is to make neurological information more practical and accessible for researchers and care teams without reducing the complexity of the science behind it," he said.

The UAE has made digital health and AI-driven medical innovation central to its national agenda, with initiatives tied directly to Vision 2030 and the country's broader push to position itself as a hub for life sciences and health technology. A UAE-based founder building IP in neurotechnology, listed on the UAE Research Map, and running clinical pilots from Dubai fits squarely within that direction.
