This company is building the first fully agentic EHR for behavioral health

If you've ever sat in a doctor's office and watched your therapist spend more time clicking than connecting, you already know the Electronic Health Record (EHR) is broken. Enter JotPsych, a scrappy upstart that's made a name for itself turning AI into a scribe that actually listens — literally. And now, they've got fuel to throw on the fire.
The behavioral health tech startup just landed a $5 million seed round led by Base10 Partners, with one bold aim: to become the first fully agentic EHR. That's not just a souped-up scribe — it's a whole new brain for how clinics run.
CEO Nathan Peereboom puts it plainly: "Our mandate was simple: slash the 4+ hours a day clinicians waste on narrative paperwork."
They've already cut that time by over 90%. Now they want to take over the rest.
How does it work?
At its core, JotPsych began as an AI-powered scribe tailored to behavioral health. It listens in on therapy sessions — securely, of course — and generates accurate, customized clinical notes in minutes, not hours. The magic is in its adaptability:
- Learns from each clinician's style
- Customizes tone, language, and structure on the fly
- Responds to changing patient dynamics
In the words of CTO Jackson Bierfeldt, this wasn't meant to be a one-trick pony. The scribe was just step one.
Next up? JotPsych is building what it calls an "agentic" EHR. That means:
- Automated patient intake
- Smart scheduling
- Built-in billing and coding
- E-prescriptions with minimal clicks
- Real-time coordination across care teams
Basically, everything a practice needs to run — without the endless toggling between tabs.
Why does it matter?
Because behavioral health clinicians are drowning in admin.
And when they spend more time on charts than with patients, everyone loses.
- Over 1 million encounters have already run through JotPsych
- The platform grew 1300% in 2024 alone
- Clinicians report 90%+ time saved on documentation
This isn't just tech-for-tech's-sake. It's giving therapists their time — and sanity — back.
With Base10's money behind it, the team can now focus on what matters most: "By removing any liquidity concerns for the foreseeable future, this partnership grants us our most precious resource: focus," Peereboom said.
The context
The healthcare software world is on the brink of a big shift. For decades, EHRs were glorified filing cabinets — great at storing data, terrible at helping humans. But now, a new category is emerging: agentic systems that do, not just document.
Base10's General Partner Rexhi Dollaku said it best: "In the next few years, there will be a landgrab among agentic EHR solutions — platforms that don't just document care but actively orchestrate it."
JotPsych is betting that behavioral health is the perfect proving ground. It's a space where clinicians burn out fast, documentation is notoriously complex, and human nuance matters more than most forms can capture.
The timing's right. The need is real. And if JotPsych nails the leap from scribe to spinal cord, they might just rewrite the whole playbook on how care gets delivered.
