SRTI Park, Roche Diagnostics Middle East to drive sustainability and healthcare innovation

There's something stirring in Sharjah — and no, it's not just the desert wind. It's the sound of a bold new alliance between science and sustainability. Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) has inked a deal with Roche Diagnostics Middle East, and their mission is crystal clear: transform healthcare from the ground up, while keeping one eye on the planet.
"This MoU lays the foundation for launching a series of global initiatives and partnerships in the healthcare sector," said Dr. Asma Mahmoud Fikri of SRTI Park. And if all goes according to plan, this partnership won't just change patient care in Sharjah — it'll put the emirate on the global health innovation map.
How does it work?
At the core, this isn't just a handshake and a press photo. It's a working pact. Here's how the gears turn:
- Co-creation hubs and joint accelerators will serve as launchpads for next-gen healthcare tools.
- The focus will be on biotech and digital health, especially solutions that allow for more personalized treatment across a range of diseases.
- Together, they'll tackle sustainable lab operations, setting a local standard in line with the UN's Race to Zero campaign.
- Roche brings the scientific firepower, while SRTI offers state-of-the-art labs and access to academic partners.
As Guido Sander, Roche Diagnostics' General Manager for the Middle East, put it: "This partnership is a unique opportunity to develop sustainable healthcare models by leveraging our expertise in eco-friendly operations."
Why does it matter?
This is about more than shiny tech and fancy diagnostics. It's about creating a healthcare model that actually works — for people, for the planet, and for the future.
- Patients benefit from faster, more precise care driven by cutting-edge innovation.
- The environment gains, thanks to Roche's ambitious emissions reduction goals (already down 67% since 2004).
- Local talent thrives, with R&D, clinical trials, and AI-driven tools being built right at home.
Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park, nailed it: "Through this collaboration... we aim to position Sharjah as a global R&D hub for advanced industries, supported by an integrated ecosystem."
The context
The UAE — and Sharjah in particular — has been ramping up its efforts to pivot from oil to ideas. Health innovation sits squarely at the center of that shift. But for real transformation to happen, public-private partnerships like this one are the secret sauce.
This isn't SRTI's first foray into R&D, but it might be its most ambitious yet. And Roche, with its decades of experience and green credentials, is just the kind of partner you want in your corner when you're aiming high.
"We are proud to collaborate with SRTIP to ensure a healthier, more sustainable future for all," said Sander. And if this partnership delivers on its promise, Sharjah won't just be part of the health innovation conversation — it'll help lead it.
