Qatar’s medical school opens expanded health and tech exhibition in downtown Doha

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar has opened an expanded version of its LifeHub educational project in Msheireb Downtown Doha. The interactive exhibition uses AI and immersive technology to show visitors how innovation can tackle global health and climate challenges.

The new location occupies three floors and 1,634 square meters in the Z-07 Building, near the Msheireb metro station. It's a significant expansion from the original LifeHub pavilion at Expo Doha 2023, which attracted over 77,000 visitors.

How does it work?

LifeHub divides into themed zones, each using interactive and AI-powered displays to explore different topics:

  • Climate change causes and effects
  • Sustainable practices and their benefits
  • Technology solutions for protecting ecosystems and wildlife
  • Medical history from ancient times to today
  • Healthy and sustainable lifestyle choices
  • AI and precision medicine applications for better health outcomes

Visitors can move through these zones to experience hands-on demonstrations of how technology and medical advances address real-world problems. The space is designed to be accessible to all community members, with nearby parking and metro access.

Why does it matter?

The project reflects Qatar's push to position itself as a hub for medical education and health innovation. It aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainable development and technological advancement.

"WCM-Q is proud to have formed strategic partnerships with the Ministry of Public Health and the Ministry of Municipality to advance LifeHub," said Dr. Javaid Sheikh, dean of WCM-Q. The exhibition aims to build public understanding of emerging technologies like machine learning and precision medicine.

For visitors, LifeHub offers a chance to see complex scientific concepts presented in accessible, visual formats. This approach could help build public support for health and sustainability initiatives across Qatar.

The context

The move comes as Gulf states invest heavily in diversifying their economies beyond oil, with healthcare and technology as key focus areas. Qatar has been particularly active in attracting international medical institutions and research centers.

WCM-Q, the Qatar branch of New York's Weill Cornell Medicine, opened in 2002 as part of this strategy. The school has become a significant player in regional medical education and research.

Msheireb Downtown itself represents Qatar's vision for sustainable urban development. "Msheireb Downtown Doha represents a contemporary vision for urban development that emphasizes community welfare and ecological responsibility," said Ali Al Kuwari, CEO of Msheireb Properties.

LifeHub is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday through Thursday, and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Entry details and booking information are available through WCM-Q's website.
