Oman’s Health Ministry adds new service in the Shifa app

Oman's Ministry of Health has taken a significant step towards improving healthcare efficiency by launching a new service within the Shifa App. In collaboration with the Directorate General of Information Technology and Digital Health, the Quality Assurance Center introduced the new feature under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Salim Al Mandhari, MOH’s Undersecretary for Planning and Health Regulation.
The service aims to tackle the issue of missed appointments, a challenge that has long impacted healthcare institutions.
How does it work?
The new feature leverages digital technology to minimize appointment wastage by identifying the reasons behind missed visits. When a patient misses an appointment, they receive a text message prompting them to log into the Shifa App. The app then guides the patient through a survey designed to gather insights into why they were unable to attend.
This simple yet effective process provides healthcare administrators with valuable data on the factors contributing to appointment no-shows.
