Oman’s FSA calls on private health sector to connect with the Dhamani platform

Oman's Financial Services Authority (FSA) is laying down the law. Private health clinics and hospitals that offer insurance-backed services have until the end of March to connect with the Dhamani platform — or risk being shut out.

In a no-nonsense final warning, the FSA made it clear: failure to comply means removal from insurer networks, a move that could cripple business operations.

How does it work?

Dhamani is more than just a bureaucratic hoop to jump through — it's a game-changer for Oman's health insurance landscape. This electronic system streamlines key processes, including:

  • Claims processing: Faster and more transparent settlements.
  • Data exchange: Seamless communication between insurers, regulators, and healthcare providers.
  • Fund transfers: Secure transactions, ensuring payments are handled efficiently.
  • Approval requests: Quick verification and authorization of medical procedures.
  • Fraud prevention: A crackdown on abuse and misuse, safeguarding market stability.

The directive falls under the Regulation for Health Insurance Electronic Link (Ministerial Decision 83/2023), mandating that all transactions, from policy issuance to expiration, must be processed through Dhamani.

Why does it matter?

The move is about making Oman's health insurance sector more efficient and trustworthy. The platform ensures:

  • Better service quality: Patients and providers get faster, clearer answers.
  • Market transparency: Everyone plays by the same rules, reducing disputes and delays.
  • Confidence boost: A more stable system means greater trust from both insurers and the public.

FSA's warning is clear: those who don't get on board will be cut off. "Health facilities must integrate with Dhamani or risk exclusion from insurance networks," the authority stated.

The context

This move isn't out of the blue. Countries worldwide are digitizing their healthcare systems to enhance oversight and efficiency. Oman is following suit, ensuring its private health sector meets modern standards. The push for compliance isn't just about rules — it's about keeping up with a rapidly evolving industry.

For clinics still dragging their feet, the message is simple: act now or face the consequences. As the FSA urges, "Private health facilities are strongly encouraged to contact the Dhamani team for support." Those who don't may soon find themselves out in the cold, watching the rest of the industry move forward without them.
