Google and Flo Health join forces on women’s health data

More than 80 million women use Flo Health every month. Google now wants that data working alongside its own. On October 12, Google Health announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Flo Health, the world's leading female health platform, in what is one of the most significant moves yet to bring women's biology to the center of consumer health technology.
The partnership is built around a straightforward idea: that a smartwatch measuring resting heart rate, skin temperature, and sleep stages becomes significantly more useful when it also knows where a woman is in her menstrual cycle. So does an AI coaching tool. And so does a research program trying to understand conditions like perimenopause or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), conditions that have historically received far less clinical attention than they warrant.
How will it work?
The collaboration is structured around four areas of work:
- App syncing: From early 2027, users will be able to sync their Flo Health app with Google Health. With explicit consent, cycle data from Flo can be combined with Google Health metrics, including resting heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, and sleep stages, to produce a unified daily health picture.
- AI coaching integration: Flo Health data will feed into Google Health Coach, available through Google Health Premium. The coach will connect cycle phase, sleep quality, and recovery metrics to offer guidance tailored to where a woman is in her cycle or life stage.
- Research: The two companies plan joint research initiatives covering underserved areas including perimenopause, PMOS, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery.
- New products: The partnership will develop new hardware and software products that combine Flo's clinical algorithms with Google's wearable sensor expertise.
On privacy, both companies have been explicit. No data moves between apps without the user's separate, explicit permission for each data type and each purpose. Flo data shared with Google Health will not be used for advertising, will not be sold, and will not be passed to third-party developers via Google's health platforms.
Why does it matter?
Women's health has long been under-represented in both clinical research and consumer technology. Wearables, for most of their history, were designed and validated primarily on male physiology. The result is that millions of women have been using tools that were never really built for them. This partnership is a direct response to that gap.
For the GCC region, the implications are real. Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 has placed preventive health and digital health infrastructure at the heart of its transformation agenda. The UAE has made similar commitments through its National Health Strategy, with a growing emphasis on personalized medicine and health data integration. As regional health systems invest in wearable-based monitoring programs and AI-assisted care pathways, partnerships like this one define what the underlying technology will look like. Women across the Gulf who use Fitbit devices or Google's health ecosystem stand to benefit directly.
The context
Google Health has been building quietly but consistently toward this kind of integrated health experience. The Google Health Coach, the Pixel Watch 5, the Fitbit Edge, and the Google Health app are all part of a broader effort to move from passive data collection to active, personalized guidance. The Flo partnership is the clearest signal yet that women's health is not a niche vertical for Google. It's a core part of that vision.
Flo Health, for its part, brings something Google does not have: deep clinical credibility in female health, a large and loyal user base, and proprietary algorithms built specifically around menstrual and reproductive health. That's a combination worth paying attention to. And for women's health research, which remains chronically underfunded globally, a well-resourced, data-rich collaboration between two major platforms could move the field faster than academic programs alone.
