Eli Lilly adds Oura smart ring to its LillyDirect platform

Eli Lilly has announced a partnership with smart ring maker Oura, adding wearable health tracking to its direct-to-consumer platform LillyDirect. Patients who use LillyDirect are now eligible for a free Oura Ring sizing kit, giving them access to real-time data on sleep, heart rate, body temperature, and physical activity.

The move comes one month after Oura launched its GLP-1 Insights program, which pairs biometric tracking with GLP-1 treatment. Lilly says more than half of Oura's members identify as having obesity or being overweight, and many already log their GLP-1 usage inside the Oura app. That overlap made the partnership a logical next step for both companies.

Jennifer Mazur, senior vice president of U.S. LillyDirect and consumer services at Lilly, says the goal has always been to go beyond just dispensing medication. "We've talked a lot about holistic support and this desire to go beyond the medicine to ensure people have access to quality education resources," she said. "That was the impetus for this partnership with Oura."

How does it work?

LillyDirect already connects patients with independent healthcare providers, nutrition guidance, and behavioral health resources. The Oura ring adds a hardware layer to that mix. Here is what the partnership looks like in practice:

  • LillyDirect users can request a free Oura Ring sizing kit directly through the platform
  • The ring tracks key health metrics, including sleep quality, resting heart rate, body temperature, and daily activity
  • Patients can choose whether to share that biometric data with their healthcare provider
  • Access to LillyDirect resources, including the Oura kit, does not require a Lilly prescription

Mazur says Lilly has spent the past two years looking closely at where patients run into trouble on their healthcare journey. The friction is not just at the point of prescription. It also shows up when patients are trying to understand how a drug works, what side effects to expect, and how to build habits that support their treatment.

Why does it matter?

GLP-1 drugs like Lilly's Zepbound have reshaped the weight loss market, but taking the medication is only part of the picture. Diet, sleep, and physical activity all affect how well treatment works, and until now, patients have had few structured ways to track those factors alongside their prescription.

By pairing a drug manufacturer with a wearable company, Lilly is betting that better data leads to better outcomes, and to stronger patient retention on its platform. That matters commercially too. Since LillyDirect launched, the platform has:

  • Supported more than 11 million prescription fills
  • Reached approximately two million patients
  • Accounted for 45% of new prescription volume for Lilly's GLP-1 drugs

Those numbers show that LillyDirect is not a side project. It is handling a significant share of Lilly's GLP-1 business, and the company is investing accordingly.

The context

LillyDirect launched in early 2024, initially focused on giving self-pay patients access to Lilly's single-dose vials at lower cost. Since then, it has grown into a broader health platform, adding a partnership with Walmart for in-store medication pickup last fall.

The Oura deal fits into a wider industry trend: pharmaceutical companies moving closer to patients by building digital ecosystems around their drugs. Rather than relying entirely on healthcare providers to manage the patient relationship, companies like Lilly are investing in direct channels that combine prescriptions, education, and now wearable tech.

There is also a policy angle worth watching. Lilly is preparing to support patients through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, a federal pilot that will give Medicare Part D members access to certain GLP-1 drugs between July 2026 and December 2027. For patients without commercial insurance, Lilly also offers a savings card and a self-pay option for its new weight loss pill Foundayo. As access to GLP-1s broadens, platforms like LillyDirect are likely to become more central to how patients find, afford, and manage these treatments.
