CPHI Middle East to propel region’s biotech and pharma innovation

This December, Riyadh will host the inaugural CPHI Middle East with the idea to transform the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors in the Middle East and Africa. Drawing industry leaders from over 100 countries, the event marks a significant milestone in the region's journey toward becoming a global biotech powerhouse.

Under the patronage of the Saudi Ministry of Health, CPHI Middle East will showcase the latest innovations and foster partnerships that could redefine healthcare and pharma across the region.

How will it work?

CPHI Middle East is designed as a comprehensive platform to facilitate international collaboration, knowledge sharing, and business partnerships. The event will feature four stages — The Future, Innovation, Next-Gen Bio, and Discovery — each dedicated to exploring emerging trends and challenges in the pharmaceutical sector.

Attendees will benefit from insights shared by global experts like Professor Peter Pitts and regional influencers such as Mosaed Alkolief and Dr. Hana Sboul. Moreover, over 400 exhibitors — including industry giants like United Pharma Industries and Julphar — will showcase cutting-edge solutions in pharma manufacturing, packaging, and API discovery.

Why does it matter?

Saudi Arabia's pharmaceutical market is on track to reach $11.5 billion by 2032, with ambitious goals to double domestic production by 2030. Events like CPHI Middle East play a crucial role in achieving these targets by connecting global leaders with local partners.

According to Mundhir Al-Hakim, Exhibition Director, "CPHI Middle East is not just a regional event; it's a global stage for the pharmaceutical industry."

This gathering is expected to catalyze innovation and drive the next generation of pharmaceutical advancements, aligning with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals of prioritizing healthcare and life sciences.

The context

The Middle East is emerging as a pivotal player in the global pharma and biotech sectors, with the MENA region projected to grow at an annual rate of 10% over the next eight years. Saudi Arabia's National Biotech Strategy underscores the nation's ambition to lead in areas such as vaccine production, genomics, and advanced biomanufacturing. By hosting CPHI Middle East, Riyadh signals its commitment to fostering an ecosystem where international expertise meets local innovation, paving the way for sustainable growth and self-sufficiency in healthcare.

As Al-Hakim aptly puts it, "This event is a melting pot of ideas and partnerships," highlighting its role as a cornerstone for the future of pharma in the region.
