Calm launches a new app for sleep support

Sleep is having a moment — and digital mental health company Calm wants to be your guide through it. The mental-wellness giant just dropped Calm Sleep, a standalone app built to turn bedtime from a battle into a ritual you actually look forward to. This is more than an app release; it's Calm's official moonshot to own your whole nighttime routine.

"Now with Calm Sleep, we're introducing a product built entirely around the sleep experience," says Jon Tien, Calm's Chief Product Officer. "We're helping people feel more empowered in their sleep journey, not just more informed about it." Translation: no more apps that tell you you slept badly — this one helps you fix it.

How does it work?

Think of Calm Sleep as your pocket sleep coach, not just a tracker that wags its finger the next morning. After a quick onboarding quiz, the app hands you a personalized sleep plan with small, science-backed tweaks to your day.

Highlights include:

  • The Sleep Readiness Bar:- a playful meter that rises as you check off pre-bed rituals.
  • Custom Content: meditations, wind-down tips, and expert advice tuned to your habits.
  • Wearable Syncing: hooks into Apple HealthKit to turn data into action steps.
  • Exclusive Sleep Stories: 300+ hours of dreamy content and new tales voiced by Delilah and Andrew Scott (yes, that Andrew Scott).

Bottom line: Calm Sleep doesn't just sit on your phone; it nudges you to actually get better rest.

Why does it matter?

Bedtime, for many, has become the witching hour of doomscrolling, insomnia, and 3AM overthinking. There's even a term for it: "orthosomnia," sleep anxiety caused by trying too hard to sleep. And with 92% of people saying they want better rest, Calm is betting big that bedtime is the next wellness frontier.

"Bedtime should be revered, not feared," says Greg Justice, Calm's Chief Content Officer. Instead of just diagnosing bad sleep, Calm is delivering the tools — and the vibe — to fix it.

The context

This isn't Calm's first rodeo. Its Sleep Stories have been played over a billion times, proving people will happily trade late-night Twitter doomscrolling for a narrated fairy tale if you make it good enough. Calm is now scaling that magic beyond headphones:

  • Hilton x Calm's "World's Sleepiest Room" - blackout curtains, cooling pillows, and Calm soundscapes turn Times Square into a nap zone.
  • Bedding at Target - cooling pillows, linen mist, and more, each with a free Calm Sleep trial.
  • Calm x Ozlo Sleepbuds - earbuds that know when you've drifted off and swap your Sleep Story for soothing soundscapes.

At $69.99/year and available globally on iOS, Calm Sleep is less of an app launch and more of a lifestyle statement: your nights, re-engineered.
