ADFD commits AED370 million to fund digital transformation of Jordan’s Ministry of Health

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has committed AED370 million (around $100M) to support the digital transformation of Jordan's Ministry of Health.

Announced during the visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Jordan, this project aims to strengthen Jordan's healthcare system by leveraging advanced technology. It is part of a broader UAE initiative to promote digital transformation, in alignment with Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision 2023-2025. The collaboration between the UAE and Jordan exemplifies their shared goal of sustainable development and technological advancement.

How will it work?

The project, to be implemented by the Emirati company Presight, involves creating a unified digital platform to link healthcare facilities across Jordan. This system will facilitate the efficient and secure exchange of health information between various centers, enhancing accessibility and reliability within the health sector. The platform also plans to introduce a next-generation virtual hospital that will serve as a hub, connecting peripheral hospitals, thus enabling more streamlined healthcare delivery.

The implementation begins with a thorough assessment of Jordan's current healthcare infrastructure. This will include evaluating the interoperability of existing systems and ensuring that data security measures are robust enough to protect patient information.

As noted by Dr. Adel Al-Sharji, COO of Presight, "The integration of artificial intelligence in our healthcare solutions is transforming how we develop and deliver health services."

Why does it matter?

Digital transformation in healthcare is crucial for improving the efficiency, quality, and reach of medical services, especially in a country like Jordan that is committed to modernizing its economy. By connecting healthcare facilities through a unified digital platform, this project ensures that healthcare data is accessible and secure, which can lead to better patient outcomes and more informed decision-making by medical professionals.

As Her Excellency Zeina Toukan emphasized, "Digital transformation in the health sector is now an essential step to harness advanced technologies that enhance the quality of healthcare services."

Moreover, the UAE's involvement underscores the importance of cross-border partnerships in driving progress. By financing this project, the UAE supports Jordan's healthcare sector while reinforcing its own global leadership in the implementation of advanced technologies.

The context

This initiative is part of the UAE's broader commitment to support Jordan's long-term development strategies. Since 1974, ADFD has played a key role in advancing Jordan's development plans, and this digital health project is aligned with Jordan's ten-year economic modernization vision. The collaboration between Presight and Jordan's Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship highlights the importance of bringing together both local and international expertise.

As stated by His Excellency Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, "Our leadership is committed to supporting Jordan's national strategies and development programs, enabling the country to realize its vision for economic prosperity across various sectors."

This partnership aims to advance Jordan's digital transformation efforts and strengthen the ties between the two nations, fostering innovation and sustainable development.
