Abu Dhabi DoH forms Emirati Advisory Doctors Committee to help shape the future of healthcare in the Emirate

The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the primary healthcare regulator in Abu Dhabi, has taken a significant step towards enhancing the emirate's healthcare landscape. By forming the first Emirati Advisory Doctors Committee, DoH aims to bridge the gap between policymakers and on-ground practitioners — fostering a collaborative environment that promotes innovation, high standards of care, and a forward-looking approach to healthcare in the region.
How does it work?
The Emirati Advisory Doctors Committee consists of DoH executive leaders and 14 eminent Emirati clinicians and researchers from Abu Dhabi's leading healthcare providers. The committee is chaired by H.E. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH, with HE Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, serving as Deputy Chairman. By creating a continuous dialogue between the healthcare authority and medical professionals, the committee will evaluate the evolving healthcare landscape, identify areas for improvement, and provide strategic insights on key medical disciplines, including oncology, diabetes, primary care, mental health, and more.
The committee's purpose is twofold: to provide valuable feedback on new standards and guidelines and to offer insights into current challenges faced by healthcare providers. This direct communication channel allows for a more responsive and adaptive regulatory framework that reflects the realities on the ground, promoting a higher standard of care for patients and positioning Abu Dhabi as a hub for global healthcare research and innovation.
Why does it matter?
This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Abu Dhabi's journey to become a leader in global healthcare.
As H.E. Al Mansoori notes, "By regularly convening with some of the brightest minds from our world-class healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi, we ensure that our guidelines and standards are meticulously informed by the latest research and invaluable on-ground insights."
The collaboration is designed to significantly enhance patient outcomes, elevate care standards, and ensure a superior healthcare experience for all residents and visitors of Abu Dhabi.
The committee is set to meet quarterly to discuss industry trends, emerging challenges, and the effectiveness of new guidelines. Members, chosen for their diverse expertise in various specialties, will provide feedback to continuously refine the healthcare strategies of the emirate. This dynamic approach will help DoH maintain a robust regulatory framework that adapts to the community's evolving needs, ensuring that all citizens have access to comprehensive, agile healthcare services.
The context
The creation of the Emirati Advisory Doctors Committee is part of a broader strategy by DoH to maintain and elevate the physical and mental well-being of the community. Involving healthcare professionals in the decision-making process ensures that the regulatory environment is not only compliant with international standards but also grounded in the local context and expertise. The diverse committee members, from specialists in metabolic genetics and emergency medicine to experts in cardiology and oncology, are uniquely positioned to guide this vision forward.
With an eye on the future, DoH's initiative demonstrates a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in healthcare. By aligning its goals with the needs of its citizens and leveraging the expertise of leading healthcare professionals, the Department of Health is paving the way for a healthier, more resilient Abu Dhabi.
