Mental health care in the Arab world has a language problem. Not just literally, but culturally. Most digital platforms are built for English-speaking markets and adapted, poorly, for everyone else. Arab Therapy was founded on the premise that this isn’t good enough, and investors are starting to agree.

The startup has closed a $2 million pre-Series A round led by Manara Ventures, with Anara Impact Fund and Value Makers Studio also participating. Founded in 2021 by Jordanian entrepreneurs Dr Tareq Dalbah and Hekmat Al Hasi, the company offers online therapy sessions with licensed Arabic-speaking specialists, a mental health content library, and AI-powered tools, all built natively in Arabic. Its clinical framework is supervised by professionals from the University of Hamburg.

Arab Therapy operates on both B2C and B2B models, serving individual users and corporate clients. This dual approach matters: employer-sponsored mental health benefits are growing fast across the GCC, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where Vision 2030 has put workforce wellbeing firmly on the agenda.

The company previously raised $1 million in seed funding in April 2024, led by Flat6Labs and Vision Health Pioneers.

The funds will be used for…

Geographic expansion into Saudi Arabia

Broader growth across the Middle East

Scaling the platform’s AI-enabled mental health tools

Building out B2B enterprise offerings for corporate clients

Why does it matter?

More than 400 million people speak Arabic, yet culturally appropriate mental health services remain scarce across the region. Stigma is one barrier. But so is access: finding a licensed therapist who speaks your language, understands your cultural context, and is available online is harder than it should be. Arab Therapy is one of the few startups genuinely built for this gap, not retrofitted to fill it.

The context

Saudi Arabia is the obvious next market. The Kingdom has made mental health a national priority, with the Ministry of Health expanding psychiatric services and telehealth becoming a permanent fixture post-pandemic. The UAE has moved in a similar direction. So the timing is right. Still, execution in the GCC is rarely simple, and scaling a clinical platform across multiple regulatory environments will test the company. The investors backing this round, particularly Manara Ventures and Anara Impact Fund, both have regional networks that should help.

Forty-five thousand teleradiology reports. Fifty-five thousand monitored dialysis sessions. More than 2,000 intensive care cases managed remotely. In just one year of operation, the Jordan Digital Health Centre has put up numbers that would impress any health system. So the question now isn’t whether it works. It’s how quickly the country can connect the rest of its hospitals to it.

What’s the news?

Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, serving as Regent, chaired a meeting of Jordan’s National Council for Future Technology on Tuesday, where he called for expanding the number of hospitals and health centres connected to the Jordan Digital Health Centre. Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, who chairs the council, was also present.

Minister of Health Ibrahim Bdour gave a progress report on the centre’s first year of operations, detailing the services it currently delivers across the country. Those include:

A dialysis unit and intensive care unit linked to 12 hospitals

A digital radiology unit connected to 19 hospitals

A telemedicine unit linked to three healthcare centres

More than 45,000 teleradiology reports delivered

Over 55,000 dialysis sessions remotely monitored

More than 2,000 ICU cases supervised

Hundreds of specialist consultations extended to affiliated facilities

The Crown Prince stressed the need to keep building on the centre’s technological capabilities to improve services for citizens and reduce pressure on the health system.

Why does it matter?

Remote care is only as useful as its reach. Right now, the Jordan Digital Health Centre’s telemedicine unit covers three health centres. Its dialysis and ICU monitoring reaches 12 hospitals. That’s a solid foundation, but Jordan has over 100 public hospitals and hundreds of primary care facilities. The push from the palace to expand integration is essentially a directive to close that gap.

The efficiency case is also strong. Bdour pointed to improved resource management of medical supplies and hospital beds as a measurable benefit, which translates to real savings in government hospital budgets. For a country that has long worked to stretch its healthcare spending, that’s a meaningful outcome. And by reducing the need for patients to travel to specialist centres, the telemedicine component directly addresses one of the most persistent frustrations in public healthcare across the region.

The context

Jordan isn’t alone in this direction. Across the GCC and the broader Arab world, governments are moving to digitise and centralise health infrastructure. Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 has placed health technology at the centre of its reform agenda. The UAE has built out a network of smart health systems tied to its national digital identity framework. And Qatar has invested heavily in integrated health data platforms ahead of and following the 2022 World Cup.

Jordan’s approach is notable because it’s being driven from the top. Royal and prime ministerial involvement in a council dedicated to future technology signals that digital health isn’t being left to ministry-level bureaucracy alone. It has political priority. That tends to accelerate things.

Still, the real test will come in implementation. Connecting 12 hospitals to a dialysis network is one thing. Scaling that across a national system, with consistent data standards, trained staff, and reliable connectivity, requires sustained investment and coordination. The Crown Prince’s call for broader integration is a clear mandate. But what matters next is the plan to execute it, and the timeline attached to it.

For health system planners and technology vendors operating across the region, Jordan’s model is worth watching. It demonstrates that a mid-sized Arab economy can build functioning digital health infrastructure at scale, even within tight resource constraints. If the expansion goes well, it could offer a replicable blueprint for others in the region considering similar centralised care coordination models.

Jordan is rapidly expanding its digital healthcare reach. The health ministry announced Monday that seven additional public hospitals are now connected to the country’s Digital Health Centre, bringing the total to 12 hospitals and three health centers nationwide.

The expansion follows direct orders from Crown Prince Hussein to modernize Jordan’s healthcare system using digital technology. The goal is simple: better care with less burden on patients and medical staff.

The newly connected hospitals include facilities in remote areas like Ruwaished, Northern Badia, and Ghor Safi. They join five hospitals that were linked during the first phase, including those in Ramtha, Tafileh, and Mafraq.

How does it work?

The Digital Health Centre operates like a virtual hospital command center. Patients can consult specialist doctors through video calls without traveling to major cities. Doctors can remotely review X-rays and test results, then send reports electronically to local hospitals.

The system covers multiple specialties. Radiologists review scans from afar. Specialists monitor dialysis sessions remotely. Intensive care experts track critical patients through digital connections. Cardiologists and diabetes specialists offer consultations via video.

Beyond patient care, the center monitors hospital capacity and drug supplies through integrated digital systems. This helps administrators make better decisions about resource allocation across the network.

Why does it matter?

The numbers tell the story. Since launching in July 2025, the center has issued over 29,000 radiology reports remotely. It has monitored more than 19,000 dialysis sessions and tracked over 900 intensive care patients. More than 750 patients have used remote consultations for diabetes and heart conditions.

For patients in remote areas, this means no more long trips to see specialists in Amman. For the healthcare system, it means better use of scarce medical expertise. A single specialist can now serve multiple hospitals without leaving their office.

The system also reduces medical errors and improves response times. When a local doctor needs a second opinion, they can get it instantly rather than waiting days for a specialist to visit.

The context

Jordan’s digital health push reflects a broader trend across the Middle East. Countries are investing heavily in telemedicine to overcome geographic challenges and specialist shortages.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development is funding Jordan’s Digital Health Centre, showing how regional cooperation is driving healthcare innovation. The project serves as a model for other countries looking to integrate health and technology sectors.

This expansion comes as healthcare systems worldwide grapple with rising costs and uneven access to specialists. Jordan’s approach offers a practical solution that other developing nations could adapt to their own needs.

Jordan just made a bold leap into the future of healthcare. With the launch of its first-ever Digital Health Center — essentially a virtual hospital — Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS), part of M42, has helped connect five far-flung hospitals to a central command hub in Alsalt. It’s not just another tech project; it’s a lifeline for patients who once had to wait weeks for diagnoses or travel hours for specialist care.

As Kareem Shahin, CEO of M42’s Digital Health Solutions, put it, “This milestone shows what’s possible when technology meets action.”

How does it work?

The Jordan Digital Health Center runs like a hospital without walls. A network of smart systems and connected hospitals powers it:

Tele-ICU: Patients’ vital signs stream in real time to specialists in Alsalt, where AI-driven triage tools flag emergencies instantly. Continuous monitoring means fewer transfers to the capital — and families can stay together while their loved ones get expert care.

Tele-dialysis: Six nephrologists, who used to crisscross the country to reach 32 hospitals, can now treat five times more patients remotely.

Tele-radiology: What once took two weeks — getting diagnostic imaging results — now takes under two days, an 86% improvement.

It’s all part of a partnership between M42’s ADHDS, G42’s Presight, and Jordan’s Ministries of Health and Digital Economy. The system’s success has already earned a green light for Phase 2, expanding the virtual hospital network to seven more hospitals nationwide.

Why does it matter?

This isn’t just about convenience. It’s about fairness, access, and dignity. “The Jordan Digital Health Center ensures that every Jordanian can access high-quality care, anywhere and anytime,” said Health Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Budour. For a country where geography often dictates healthcare access, that’s game-changing.

By cutting wait times, slashing costs, and keeping patients near home, this initiative proves digital health can be deeply human. As Dr. Adel AlSharji from Presight explained, “By combining advanced analytics with visionary public sector collaboration, we are bringing critical care closer to the people who need it most.”

The context

Jordan’s move fits squarely into its Economic Modernization Vision, a national plan to digitize government services and boost quality of life through tech. “We’re linking hospitals through advanced digital infrastructure to improve lives and drive a smarter future,” said H.E. Eng. Sami Smeirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

ADHDS, now integrating telehealth services into its core portfolio, sees Jordan as just the beginning. With the Kingdom positioning itself as a regional model for healthcare innovation, the digital health domino effect may soon ripple across the Middle East.

This isn’t just a project — it’s proof that when smart partnerships meet national ambition, technology becomes more than code. It becomes compassion, at scale.

On the record

“This funding is not just capital; it’s trust — trust in our vision to digitise healthcare access across the Middle East, starting with Saudi Arabia,” said Rushdi Abdalghani.

“We are building DawaDose as a Saudi company with a global outlook. This is just the first step toward reshaping pharmaceutical e-commerce in the region,” said Osama Almabroum.

“We are creating Arabic-first AI medical infrastructure—scalable, smart, and aligned with Vision 2030,” added Rania Abu Taleb.

The context

Digital Health / HealthTech is still a nascent market in the Middle East, and it is the deals like these that pave the way for a brighter future for the sector — which, we have no doubts, is coming. We’ll make sure you get the latest from the region’s HealthTech scene, so stay tuned.

In the hilltop city of Salt, a quiet but powerful shift is taking shape. On a warm Tuesday morning, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II cut the ribbon on something that could reshape how Jordanians experience healthcare — the Jordan Digital Health Centre.

Think of it as a launchpad for a new kind of care — one that’s faster, smarter, and doesn’t require sitting for hours in a crowded waiting room. Backed by the National Council for Future Technology and funded by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, this center isn’t just about wires and screens — it’s about making healthcare work for people, not the other way around.

How will it work?

At its core, the centre is a tech-enabled hub that brings cutting-edge services right to the fingertips of patients — especially those in areas underserved by traditional infrastructure. Here’s what’s packed inside:

Digital dialysis, radiology, and intensive care units — modernized, efficient, and designed to reduce patient strain.

Telemedicine that lets patients talk to doctors through voice or video right after diagnosis — no traffic, no waiting, just answers.

A real-time hospital monitoring system that checks the capacity of public hospitals and medicine warehouses to distribute patients more efficiently and cut down on waste.

“Patients can now receive medical consultations remotely,” said Health Minister Firas Al Hawari, “helping ease access to specialized care, especially for rare conditions.”

Already, the centre is wired into five major public hospitals and three healthcare centres. That’s just Phase One. In Phase Two? Even more hospitals and clinics across the country will get plugged in.

Why does it matter?

Let’s not sugarcoat it — healthcare systems everywhere are stretched thin. Jordan’s no exception. Long queues, overburdened staff, and lopsided access between urban and rural areas have been nagging issues for years.

This centre offers a smart fix:

Eases overcrowding in hospitals by rerouting patients efficiently.

Cuts time and cost for people in remote towns who no longer need to travel for routine checkups.

Optimizes resource use, ensuring medical supplies don’t gather dust in one hospital while another runs short.

In short, it’s healthcare that thinks ahead. Or as one observer put it during the visit, “This isn’t just digitization — it’s liberation.”

The context

This isn’t Jordan’s first dance with digital health — but it might be its most ambitious step yet. The Crown Prince, a known advocate for tech-forward solutions, is placing real bets on future-focused public services. His visit to the centre wasn’t just ceremonial. He joined a meeting of the National Council for Future Technology’s digital health committee, diving into the nuts and bolts of where this is all heading.

It’s also worth noting the broader picture: this move aligns with regional pushes for smarter healthcare ecosystems, with partners like Abu Dhabi backing cross-border innovations.

Later that day, the Crown Prince dropped by the Salt Comprehensive Healthcare Centre, recently upgraded and now offering standardized e-payment services. Another sign that healthcare in Jordan is moving with the times — digitally and physically.
